Text Suggestions to the Zero Draft of the Global Digital Compact
April 2024
As Member States gear up to adopt the Global Digital Compact (GDC) in September 2024, we must advocate for a robust framework of economic justice rooted in the right to development.
In response to the Zero Draft released by the co-facilitators of the GDC process, H.E. Anna Karin Eneström of Sweden and H.E. Chola Milambo of Zambia, our text suggestions emphasize the importance of including the “right of peoples to self-determination” within the digital governance framework. We assert that economic, social, and cultural development must be central pillars of any international digital governance regime.
Our response examines how international regimes on trade, intellectual property, taxation, financialization, and more intersect with the current digital landscape, advocating for a more just and equitable global digital future.
